Hiking is something I have had the pleasure of participating in since before I can even remember. Growing up in a part of the world that has hardly changed since the turn of the century was a blessing most people will unfortunately never have and I count myself lucky as one of the minority to have lived it every day of my young life. The hidden treasure I am referring to is Valemount BC or more widely known as the Robson Valley, its namesake being the tallest mountain in the Canadian Rockies; Mount Robson. It was here I spent my adolescence lost in the vast sea of jagged mountains, high windy plateaus, and lush green pine forests participating in every outdoor activity available to me. Fortunately for me both of my parents were outdoor enthusiasts and explorers, each with a skill set very different than the other but equally excited to teach my brother and I all they had to offer. I remember one of the first major hikes I did with them, a 25 Km trek resulting in what can only be described as "epic" view of the Rampart Chain in the Tonquin Valley near Jasper Alberta. This hike kicked off a lifelong journey to put myself in some of the most remote and stunning vistas on the planet in search of similar places, the latest being the North Boundary trail. Thankfully I have a partner in my life who is as enticed by the adventure of hiking as I am, the picture below is of the end part of the trail we took through the North Boundary and out beside Mount Robson itself. She and I hope to instil the love of the outdoors and adventure into the students we teach in the hopes of creating a lifelong pursuit much like my own.
